sono sopravvissute alcune parole in uso nel Seicento ma oggi scomparse in Gran Bretagna.&lt;/a&gt; Tra queste &lt;i&gt;fall&lt;/i&gt; (inteso come "autunno", brit. moderno &lt;i&gt;autumn&lt;/i&gt;), &lt;i&gt;faucet, diaper, candy, skillet, crib&lt;/i&gt;, considerate degli americanismi. Anche la forma verbale &lt;i&gt;gotten&lt;/i&gt; (anziché &lt;i&gt;got&lt;/i&gt;) come participio passato di &lt;i&gt;get&lt;/i&gt; è ancora prevalente in America mentre è quasi del tutto scomparsa in Europa. Altre parole inizialmente scomparse dall’&lt;span class="mw-redirect"&gt;inglese britannico&lt;/span&gt; vi ci sono state reintrodotte dall’influenza americana, come &lt;i&gt;hire&lt;/i&gt; come sinonimo di &lt;i&gt;employ&lt;/i&gt;, &lt;i&gt;quit&lt;/i&gt; come sinonimo di &lt;i&gt;stop&lt;/i&gt;, o l’espressione “I guess”. L'AI prende così il posto dell'AS, anche in virtù della supremazia del dialetto West Saxon su quello anglico, dovuto al rafforzarsi della situazione economica e politica degli stati del sud dell'Inghilterra rispetto a quella del nord (zona dei 5 regni) sino all'invasione normanna.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Il MI si può far terminare intorno all'inizio del XVI secolo.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Il PIM copre un periodo di tempo, che va da Shakespeare sino alla metà del Settecento.
